SADIE SAUNDERS
Sadie is a cartoonist, educator, and community organizer from Boston, MA. Their work focuses on risograph printed mini-comics, zines, and books that center on joy and humor, often drawing from stories about her own life. In addition to her creative work, Sadie teaches at several Boston based institutions and she serves as a co-director for MICE, The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo.

What’s it about?
My prints are often based around creatures I enjoy drawing with a touch of humor added to it. The idea of eels dealing with different kinds of light sources delighted me, especially because it meant playing with light and shadow. My rule of thumb when making drawing is: if it delights me, it will probably delight others.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area?
I love the electrical boxes around Allston/Brighton, especially Ansis Purins’ mice.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Going on a long walk around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir or the Charles River!

Lone Star
What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years?
Taking risks in order to get to where you want to be is really not as scary as you think it’s going to be. Stasis is far more frightening than attempt.
What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist?
It’s going to take time, and that’s okay.
