ISABELLE HIGGINS
Isabelle Higgins is a Boston-based painter who received her BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2019. She has exhibited in numerous venues, including group shows at Steven Zevitas Gallery (MA) and Trotter & Scholar (NY), as well as a two-person exhibition at LaMontagne Gallery (MA).
She was awarded the Yale Norfolk Residency in 2018 and attended the Vermont Studio Center Residency in 2019. Higgins is a recipient of the 2018 George Nick Prize and the 2018 Rob Moore Grant in Painting. She currently works at MassArt with sparc! the ArtMobile in the Center for Art and Community Partnerships.

Title of artwork: A Feast
What’s it about?
This piece was one of my first explorations with gouache and painting water. I created it during a period when I felt unsure what to make, and it helped me find my way back into creating. This self-portrait feels like a hopeful dreamscape, and more playful than my other work.

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years?
The meticulous work of tiny details is where I find the most fulfillment in painting.
What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist?
The vulnerability in your work is where its power lives. Stay open, even when it feels scary.

What is your dream project to work on?
